Groton Council on Aging

Organization Name: Groton Council on Aging
Organization Address:173 Main St. Groton, MA 01450 (mailing address)
163 West Main St. (Rt. 225) West Groton (physical address)
Organization Contact People: Deborah Thompson, Outreach/Volunteer Coordinator
(COA Director is Martha Campbell)
Organization Phone: 978-448-1170

Description of Organization: We offer noontime meals at the center as well as home delivered meals at noon, programs at the Senior Center, education, and social services (fuel assistance, food stamps, Medicare help).

Volunteering Opportunities:
1. Meals on Wheels (home delivered meals) drivers,
2. Angels on Wheels drivers (to take seniors to doctor appointments),
3. Friendly visitors to “adopt” a senior and help them by being their friend, and possible support them around the house.
4. Chore Corps: to help seniors with household and yard projects that are too difficult for the seniors to handle any more like: shoveling snow, raking yards, spring/fall cleanup around the house and other small projects.

Requirements for Volunteers: Students would be asked to choose either a project for one senior, or to “adopt” one senior and help that individual with work such as shoveling snow for the remainder of the winter. This is part of our “Chore Corps” opportunity, and is what is most applicable for students. They can work around their own schedules – after school or on weekends.

Other: A CORI has to be issued on those over the age of 18, or we would need to do a CORI on the teacher/parent in charge.

Disclaimer: The Community Service Initiative is not responsible for the students that volunteer, our only role is to provide a list of volunteering opportunities for students to view.
